Revisions for WJPZ Alumni Association for Hall of Fame Process

APPROVED revisions for WJPZ Alumni Association for Hall of Fame Process

Goal:  To further refine our process identifying and celebrating members of the WJPZ family with an emphasis on equity.  Balance the process for underrepresented groups and make a conscious effort to include them going forward.

Approved Adjustments (applies to the 2024 Class and beyond):

1.  Opens up nominating process to all former WJPZ members.    Nominees are submitted through AA website and/or emailed to awards committee. Nominations promoted through email, LinkedIn, Facebook, and any other outlets connecting former WJPZ members.   Nominees must provide name, graduation year, and brief summary of why the candidate selected deserves to be inducted.   Nomination window is set for a minimum of 2 weeks.

  1. Nomination/Selection Committee Makeup:
–HOF Coordinator acts as moderator (non-voting capacity)
–2 current HOF (at least 1 from previous year’s class)
    –3 Alumni “at-large” (non-board members)
–2 non-alumni “independent” who can judge candidates solely on criteria

Committee must be majority of women and/or minority by 2025 nomination process.

    3.  Nomination Committee will now be tasked with identifying 8 candidates from pool of nominees they feel should advance to final ballot, with an eye towards selecting candidates that will help meet the goal of better representation in the HOF.

    4.  Revision of criteria for consideration of candidates
–Requirement for induction now minimum 5 years since graduation.
–Weighting of participation in Alumni Association must be balanced with those who post-graduation may not be as active but have excelled in their careers, or have made significant contributions to their community while exemplifying the values of WJPZ. (See values below)
    — Non-broadcast careers who have found success at a high level should be given fair consideration.  Candidates who have exemplified the values of WJPZ in their post-graduate careers. (See revised categories)
–The category of “Friends of WJPZ” is eliminated.  At its discretion the Board may establish a separate recognition for those that would have previously fallen under this category that does not grant them Hall of Fame status but serves as an appropriate honor for their service.  This award need not be given out every year, only when the Board deems it appropriate.
